Official Rules Addendum: Conduct & Play
Rules are subject
to change without notice.
This document, in conjunction with the Official Rules for
the Tournament, constitute the rules of play and conduct for the UEF Cup
Tournament.
Rules are of course primarily about what you CAN’T do, and
what happens if you do those things. Gas Powered Games Corp, is providing
this free tournament and prize fund for the enjoyment and entertainment of our
guests, and we know that 99% of our guests will play fair, behave with honor
and decorum, and use common sense while doing so.

forfeit their games and participation in the tournament.

replays of every game using the GPGnet Replay Vault. Replays may be used to
settle game disputes or in any other fashion deemed appropriate by GPG.
B. Playing Sections
There are five Sections in the tournament by player Rating:
Under 1600, 1600-1799, 1800-1999, 2000 or greater,
and Open.
1) GPG
reserves the right to combine Sections as they see fit, depending on the number
of player entries. If sections are combined, the prize funds will still apply
to the combined Sections.
2) Players
should enter the Section appropriate to their rating. All players are welcome
to play in the Open section.
3) If
the player’s rating changes after entering the tournament, the player may
changes Sections by un-registering and re-registering . Players may freely move
UP in a rating section or to the Open, but players should not move DOWN a
rating section.

may be moved to another section by GPG if it is deemed that they have
deliberately lowered their rating.

to GPG via the online form provided.
4) In
the case of ties, prizes will be combined for the tied positions.
5) If a
prizewinner is ineligible, that prize will pass to the next player and so on.
6) GPG
may require proof of eligibility for prizewinners at its option . If proof is
not provided, the prize may be forfeited.
E. Player Connectivity
It is expected that tournament players have solid, reliable
connections and a proven record of connecting to other players for ranked
games. Players should resolve any and all connection issues before the
beginning of the tournament. With the large number of players expected for
each tournament section, TD’s will not be able to continue to pair players with
connection issues.
1) A
player who disconnects from the game and receives a loss through the GPGnet
rating system will lose the tournament match.
2) A
player who has 2 connection failures with 2 different opponents may be ejected
from the tournament at the discretion of the tournament director, especially if
the player has not successfully connected to another player. In the later
rounds, the TD will make reasonable efforts to find a viable match for players
in prize contention.
3) Players
that disconnect from GPGnet and do not reconnect and return to the tournament
room in a reasonable amount of time may be forfeited from the tournament.
4) If,
during a round, 2 players are unable to connect the TD will attempt to
re-launch their game. If the re-launch is unsuccessful, a draw will be
assigned to both players. If one of the players has already had a connection
issue, a forfeit to the other player may be assigned and the player with
connection issues will not continue to be paired. If both players have already
had connection issues, both players may be forfeited.
5) If a
crash or internet connectivity issues prevent a player from being online, the
TD may withdraw the player.
6) Players
should not leave the tournament chat room, but may do so. Players should
return to the tournament chat room no later than 10 minutes before the
scheduled start of a round. Players not present in the tournament chat room at
the round launch may forfeit their games at TD discretion.
F. Smurfing
For the purpose of this Tournament, smurfing is defined as
creating or playing on an account other than the regular account of the player
for the purpose of winning money by playing in a tournament rating section
below one’s true strength, or by attempting to gain an advantage through
anonymity. GPG considers smurfing in a prize tournament the most serious form
of cheating. Smurfing will be heavily penalized. Prizes will not be paid to
smurf accounts or accounts found to have been “smurfed”. GPG will use various
means in the days following the end of the tournament to verify all prize
winner accounts.
1) Any
account created past the Tournament Announcement Date must play in the Open
section.
2) Players
are not allowed to play on accounts with a rating significantly below the
rating of their ‘main” account, or in a lower rating class than their main
account
3) Players
playing on a legitimate 2nd account should identify themselves to
their TD, who will then identify them to all other players in that Section.
4) Players
are not allowed to play for other people or on other people’s accounts. All
players involve din such a transaction would be equally penalized.
G. Rating Sandbagging
Players are expected to play in a tournament section that
reflects their normal playing strength. If you are an 1850 player, you should
play in the over 1800 section; you should not drop your rating to play in the
1600-1800 section. Some rating drift is expected. GPG have taken historical
snapshots of player ratings and will compare those snapshots with the rating
sections players have entered for the Tournament. Players found to have
entered a lower section will be automatically moved to the correct section.
1) Players
should enter the correct and appropriate rating section for their playing
strength. All players are welcome in the Open section.
2) If a
player’s rating climbs higher than the rating section after entry, the player
should re-register in the correct section. Some drift will be tolerated: if a
player has been rated in the 1700’s for a long time and drifts to 1802 they
will not be moved; any player whose rating is higher than the maximum may be
moved by GPG to the next rating section.
3) Any
player who enters a rating section below their rating as of the date of the
tournament announcement may be removed to a higher rating class or to the Open
at GPG’s discretion.
H. Rules of Conduct
We ask that all tournament participants, win or lose,
conduct themselves with respect and good humour during the tournament. As this
is the first tournament of this nature and scope, players can expects some
difficulties, glitches, and delays along the way. We ask your patience as we
work through these instances.
1) Normal
rules of GPGnet conduct apply.
2) Players
should treat each other, Tournament Directors and assistants with respect at
all times.
3) Players
are expected to play all rounds in the Tournament.
4) If a
player must withdraw, a TD should be notified.
5) Good
sportsmanship is golden.
I. Game Bugs and Crashes
All players are playing under the exact same conditions,
subject to the same possibilities of being affected by bugs, disconnects, or
crashes that may or may not have been caused by the game. The build the
tournament will be played with (Build 3255), is well established, and what bugs
there are are well known to the playing community. Games that invole any such
bugs during the game will not be re-played, nor will their results be altered;
replays will not be reviewed to prove or disprove that such a bug took
place. There will be no exceptions to this rule.
The tournament is being played with the state of the game “where
is, as is”.
